STATEN ISLAND N.Y. -- The harsh reality of winter is here, and with it come bitter winds that make the temperature plummet to dangerous levels.
When outside -- be sure to layer-up or wear a big down jacket. And a hat and gloves are a must!
A hat will prevent your body heat from escaping through your head, and gloves will help prevent frostbite, as well as maintain flexibility in the fingers. For added warmth, mittens are the best bet.
When inside -- be sure to release a slow drip from at least one faucet to help ensure the water in the pipes doesn't freeze. When water freezes, it expands, and this can cause the pipes to break -- creating a costly headache.
