The San Antonio Spurs should have no problem beating the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series in the Western Conference on Sunday.
The San Antonio Spurs are heavily favored over the depleted Memphis Grizzlies as they start their best-of-seven playoff series at the AT&T Center.
The Spurs posted a franchise-best 67-15 record in the regular season to finish just behind the record-breaking Golden State Warriors in the overall standings. They also own the best home record at 40-1 with their only defeat coming at the hands of the Warriors.
Frontliners Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge are San Antonio's main offensive threats. Leonard was the team's top scorer in the regular season with 21.2 points per game while Aldridge put up 18 points and a team-high 8.5 rebounds in his first year with the Texas club.
Zach Randolph
Nothing much is expected from the Grizzlies after key players Marc Gasol, Mike Conley and Mario Chalmers suffered season-ending injuries one after the other. As a result, they dropped 10 of their last 11 games to slide to seventh place in the playoffs.
Zach Randolph, Matt Barnes and mid-season recruits Lance Stephenson and Jordan Farmar will lead Memphis but they will have their hands full against the healthier and more experienced Spurs. Tony Allen has missed their last three games due to a hamstring injury but the team's defensive ace is expected to play in Game 1.
The Spurs swept the Grizzlies in the regular season and have taken five in a row in the series. This is their first playoff meeting since San Antonio swept Memphis in the 2013 Western Conference Finals.
