The Cleveland Cavaliers welcome the Detroit Pistons at the Quicken Loans Arena on Sunday evening in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series in the Eastern Conference.
It took the Cleveland Cavaliers quite some time before finally clinching the Eastern Conference top spot.
Now they are looking forward to winning their second-straight conference title. The top-ranked Cavaliers (57-25) begin their playoff quest against the eighth-seeded Detroit Pistons (44-38), whom they swept in the first round of the 2009 playoffs in their last meeting in this phase.
The two teams faced off in their final game in the regular season with the Pistons posting a 112-110 overtime win in Cleveland as both teams rested their star players. Detroit also beat Cleveland twice in their three previous meetings this season.
LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love are determined to give Cleveland its first ever NBA title after falling short against the Golden State Warriors last season. James averaged 25.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 6.8 assists in the regular season while Irving put up 19.6 points and 4.7 assists. Love averaged 16 points and a team-high 9.9 rebounds.
Backing up Cleveland's Big Three are JR Smith, Matthew Dellavedova and big men Tristan Thompson, Channing Frye and Timofey Mozgov.
The Pistons, meanwhile, are determined to impress in their first playoff game since 2009. Reggie Jackson will lead Detroit in the series but it remains to be seen how will Tobias Harris, Andre Drummond, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Marcus Morris and Stanley Johnson perform in their postseason debuts.
Jackson, who has previous playoff experience with the Oklahoma City Thunder, averaged team-highs 18.8 points and 6.2 assists in the regular season while Harris put up 16.6 points and 6.2 rebounds in his 27 appearances for the Pistons after being acquired in a trade with the Orlando Magic. Drummond averaged 16.2 points and a league-best 14.8 rebounds per game. The prized big man also led the league in double-doubles with 66.
