Decatur police put a robbery suspect behind bars with the help of a citizen who met her shortly after the crime.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday, Decatur police received a call of an armed robbery at the Chevron Food Mart at 14th Street and Central Parkway Southwest.
Police said a woman entered the store holding a tire iron in her pocket like a pistol and demanded money. The clerk gave her cash from the drawer. The suspect then fled on foot.
Decatur police and a Morgan County K-9 unit tried to track down the suspect.
Shortly after, a citizen reported to the Decatur Police Department that he had given a ride to a woman from an area near the store to an apartment behind Captain D's on the Beltline. Officers responded to the area and identified Brandy Nicole Lovett, 35, as a suspect.
Lovett was initially charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police say further investigation revealed she was the store robber, so she was also charged with first-degree robbery.
Her bond was set at $10,500. However, Lovett was on probation at the time. Alabama probation and parole officers have obtained a warrant holding her in the Morgan County Jail pending a probation hearing.
