Fallout 4 Far Harbor Release Date Tips

The Fallout 4 Far Harbor release date[1] is finally here and we want to help you get into the game and situated.

Earlier this year, Bethesda confirmed plans to release a bunch of Fallout 4 DLC in 2016. The company outlined its first three DLC add-ons and said that it would deliver more expansions in the months to come.

The first Fallout 4 DLC, Automatron[2], arrived in March to great fanfare. A month later, Bethesda rolled out the much smaller Wasteland Workshop[3]. Today, the developer is pushing its biggest Fallout 4 DLC to date, a $25 add-on called Far Harbor[4].

Far Harbor takes gamers to an island off the coast of Maine and it brings new quests, characters, enemies, items, and more to the Commonwealth. It's a huge landmass with a lot to do. And it's now available for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

It's an exciting piece of content and we want to help you get into Far Harbor as quickly, and as efficiently, as possible. These tips will help you do that.

Far Harbor Release Time PS4, Xbox One & PC

Far Harbor is already unlocked in some regions but those in the United States will have to wait a few more hours for the game to arrive. There's no need to take work off early if you live on the east or west coast, it won't help you get Far Harbor installed any faster.

Far Harbor will arrive a little later for those in North America and a lot later for those that own an Xbox One or PS4 in Asia[5]. Here is how the Far Harbor release time breaks down.

Remember, there is no way to pre-load the game ahead of its unlock time so this is when you'll want to show up if you want to play ASAP.

PC / Steam

  • Australia/New Zealand – 12:01 am (AEST) on 5/19
  • France/Germany/Italy/Spain 01:01 am (CET) on 5/19
  • UK 12:01 am (BST) on 5/19
  • Rest of World – 12:01 am (BST) on 5/19
  • North America – 12:01 am (ET) on 5/1

Xbox One / PlayStation 4

The console release of Far Harbor will have a rolling midnight release worldwide, including 12 am ET for North America. Included in these release times are:

  • Australia/New Zealand – 12:01 am (AEST) on 5/19
  • France/Germany/Italy/Spain 12:01 am (CET) on 5/19
  • UK 12:01 am (BST) on 5/19
  • Rest of World – 12:01 am (BST) on 5/19
  • North America – 12:01 am (ET) on 5/19

Clean Up Your Hard Drive

According to those in New Zealand, Far Harbor is massive. Like 5GB massive[6]. For some of you, this won't be a problem. For others, now would be a great time to do some spring cleaning on the old hard drive.

This is especially true if you haven't fired up Fallout 4 in awhile. The Fallout 4 1.5 update[7], required for Far Harbor, could be lurking. The 1.5 update was about 2GB in most regions.

Head into your games and apps and delete files that you no longer need. This way, you'll be prepared for the massive Far Harbor download.

If you're buying the Far Harbor DLC as a standalone add-on, you'll want to navigate to your appropriate store and download it there. Microsoft, Steam and Sony are offering it right now and other retailers like GameStop and Amazon will join the party.

Once you download Far Harbor and install it, head to the Add-ons section on the main screen to confirm that it's correctly installed on your system's hard drive.

If you're not seeing it appear on your Xbox One[11], PlayStation 4[12] or the PC, check those links for help from Bethesda. They're for Automatron but the process is similar for Far Harbor.

Far Harbor Problems & Fixes

Far Harbor is a huge piece of content with tons of moving parts so there are bound to be problems. Let's start with a few basics.

If your Far Harbor download is moving slow, try using a wired connection. This could help speed up the download process. You might also want to plug in if your system is far away from your router. Remember, this is a big download.

Bethesda notes[13] that if you can't find Old Longfellow, a key character in Far Harbor and a companion, "you should return to the Far Harbor docks and speak with Captain Avery. Longfellow may either be in the town or at his cabin to the north."

If you're unable to use some settlement items[14] in Far Harbor that you were previously able to use, you "should exit Workshop mode, move around so that you are facing the Workshop from a different angle, and try again."

Old-Longfellow-Far-Harbor

If you're running into another Far Harbor problem (graphics, crashes, etc), you'll want to consult our list of fixes for common Fallout 4 problems[15]. Fixes for Far Harbor problems will also start to appear on Bethesda's official forum[16].

And remember. If you do stumble into a problem with Far Harbor, you'll want to report[17] whatever you see to Bethesda so that it can work on fixes for future Fallout 4 updates.

Getting Started

There isn't a level requirement for Far Harbor but there are some quests you'll want to complete before you head to the island.

Bethesda says that you must complete[18] the "Getting a Clue" in the main quest line before you can start Far Harbor. It also recommends completing the quest "Reunions." Both of these are pretty early in the game so most of you have probably completed them already.

The developer also says that you "can also access the DLC content by locating the Nakano residence at the northeast corner of the Commonwealth." This location wasn't accessible before Far Harbor's arrival.

Someone who's played and completed Far Harbor has also put together a list of tips[19] that will help you get started once you travel to the island. Take a look at them before you go. They've been extremely useful to us and many others.

14 Things to Know About the Fallout 4 Far Harbor DLC

Far Harbor Release Date Delay

Far Harbor Release Date Delay

First things first.

The Far Harbor release date for Xbox One, PS4 and PC is confirmed but it won't land on a Tuesday[20]. Instead, it'll arrive today/tomorrow in the United States and around the world.

The third Fallout 4 DLC release date will take place on May 19th[21]. This is the date for all three platforms which includes Xbox One, PS4 and PC. It won't land for everyone though.

Yesterday Bethesda[22] said that everyone would get Far Harbor on May 19th/May 18th. That apparently won't be the case.

It looks like we'll see the same release date delay[23] that impacted the Automatron and Wasteland Workshop releases in Asia.

The Automatron and Wasteland Workshop DLCs were delayed a bit for console owners in Asia. Xbox One and PS4 users got those DLC releases about a week after the rest of the pack. Far Harbor's release date for Xbox One and PS4 in Asia is now listed as TBA[24]

Look for more details to arrive later in May.
